Tunisia: Fishing Boats Block Gabes

Vessels are being prevented from entering the port of Gabes by a blockade of fishing boats.

The fishermen are protesting against tuna quotas imposed by the local authorities.  Their action has paralyzed
commercial operations by making it impossible for ships to leave or enter the port.

Gabes’ primary commercial activity serves the local chemical plants which export phosphate fertilizers.

The protest started on 26 February 2019 and Budd Tunisia is monitoring the situation to advise when the sit-in comes to an end.
